In the XVII century the
English term "Design" was used in the meaning of "plan of an art work".
The English word comes of the Latin "designare":
signs, indicate, tones.
After the second world war the
word "design" also emerges in Europe. The term has a conceptual more wide
meaning than the German "Gestaltung"
(stands dense to drawing) or the Italian "Progettazione"
(indicates more on "project"). We must wait up to 1960s before it in
France the expression replaces :"Esthétique
Industrielle", under
the influence of Jacques Viénot, founder of the design office Technès
(1949).
Design means to me: discipline
which aims at the harmonisation of the human surroundings. First as a
planning of rooms for living. Design must be the junction of an aesthetic
idea of the designer, an industrial reality, a distribution network and
the taste of the cliënt. A drawing precises that in a project, the stylist
does not have to occupy itself with the functioning elements, this is the
area of the architectural engineer, but only with the scheduling and the
form of the components in the space and in the time, in other words with
the configuration. On the Second place design is the conceptie of the
daily used objects, it has been applied to search for new forms and it has
been adapted to their functionality, as the planning of the rooms for
living.
Design is therefore a way to
stipulate life, politics, erotics, food and the design itself.
